New Year brings new CPD opportunities

Welcome back! As we kick start a new year the team are offering courses for teachers in North Tyneside through the Football Association.

The first will take place on Monday 13th January and is the first part of the new Primary Teachers’ Award. This has been developed to provide teachers and other members of who are staff delivering PE to KS1 & 2 pupils with the knowledge, skills and confidence to plan and deliver engaging and inclusive PE and school sport.

The course will focus on planning and delivering lessons on movement skills and invasion games, linking the National Curriculum and the England FA DNA to pupil learning. It also explores managing difference, holistic child development and using a games-based approach in PE. The follow up and second part of the course will take place on the morning of the North Tyneside Primary PE Network meeting on the 27th February.

To further support pupils’ engagement in physical actvity, the team will be offering courses for staff to attend which aim support schools with the delivery of their extra-curricular offer specifically for girls through the Shooting Starts Active Play through Story Telling course,  which uses the storytelling from Disney and Pixar’s animated films to capture KS1 girls imaginations, whilst developing their fundamental movement and speaking and listening skills. This intends to be the start of a child’s journey into sport and allows the opportunity to achieve the learning objectives based on the national curriculum for English and PE in KS1.

This is then further developed by the FA Shooting Stars Girls Football Club course, which is focused on key stage 2 girls using the story telling inspiration of an ainimated TV series to advance their sporting journey into a girls only after school club, where they will learn the basic footballing skills whilst engaging in imaginative play.

Sue Campbell, Director of Women’s Football at the FA, said: “By engaging in the magic of Disney storytelling, the Shooting Stars programme allows girls to develop holistically whilst falling in love with sport, motivating them to participate in physical activity and football. These sessions are engaging, help girls develop their confidence and leadership skills and most importantly inspire them to get active at school and at home. Hopefully, this provides a positive starting point to a girls journey in football whereby she can go on to attend a fun football offer with Wildcats or a competitive offer in a mini soccer club.”

These courses will be taking place on the 13th March. We are really looking forward to recieving the feedback from each of these courses and initiatives and learning of the impact they are having on engagement and towards the FA’s ‘Gameplan for Growth’ strategy for women’s and girls’ football.
