Celebrating the Daily Mile

On the 25th April 2019, 63 North Tyneside schools took part in the 2019 Daily Mile celebration day. The initiative was kick started in North Tyneside back in April 2018, where schools pledged to encourage children in their school to complete one mile by either walking, jogging or running on their school site, within their  school day. It was hoped that this would continue & be implemented into their daily school routine for many years to come.

The aim of this initiative is to improve young people’s physical, social, emotional and mental health & wellbeing. This provides a great opportunity for children to complete part of the Chief Medical Officers recommendation of 60 active minutes that young people should be particpating in each day.

One year on from this, there were even more schools aware and involved in celebrating the initiative and the young people and staff covered a total of 19,513 miles on that day alone! We know many North Tyneside schools have embedded this and see the benefit that it has on the young people, when they return to the classroom, ready to learn.

We see this is as a sustainable, practical daily activity which will impact on young people's life long skills & wellbeing.
